Ganta City, Nimba county —–The Chairperson of the Nimba County Legislative Caucus and Representative of District #8, Saye Sylvester Mianah, has clarified that the recent meeting between Nimba lawmakers and Vice President Jeremiah Koung was not an endorsement of Representative Samuel Kogar’s senatorial bid in the upcoming April 22, 2025, Nimba senatorial by-election.

According to Mianah, the Vice President invited the lawmakers to express appreciation for their efforts in maintaining peace and stability in Nimba County during the first year of their tenure. The meeting, which was attended by eight out of ten Nimba lawmakers, was  focused on appreciating the lawmakers for fostering unity and development in the county, strengthening cooperation between the Caucus and the county administration, and the development progress made in Nimba over the past year 2024.

He emphasized that the gathering, held at the Vice President’s farm outside Ganta, was not intended to solicit support for Kogar’s senatorial campaign, as speculated by some citizens.

“That was not the case. We did not call a meeting to support Kogar. We all have our individual differences. We can tell you that the Vice President never called us for that. The Vice President called to thank us for how we managed the country in the first year. He is a Vice President, not a member of the caucus. He encouraged us to continue uniting with the county administration to ensure the overall development of the county,” Hon. Mianah clarified.

He further stated that Vice President Koung, not a member of the Nimba legislative caucus.

Photos from the meeting, which circulated on social media, showed seven representatives and the lone Nimba senator, Nyah Twayen Jr.

However ,  District #9 Representative Taa Wongbe and District #5 Representative Samuel Kogar were absent from the meeting.

Meanwhile, Representative Mianah disclosed that he is in discussions with his colleagues to unite behind a single candidate for the upcoming by-election. He noted that the negotiations are progressing well, and the Caucus is expected to release a position statement, with at least a majority of its members agreeing to support one candidate.

“I am calling caucus meetings every day and night, visiting my colleagues’ offices one by one to speak with them so that we do not divide ourselves in the upcoming election. Let’s unite and support one candidate—that has been my constant plea,” Mianah stated.

Hon. Saye Sylvester Mianah provided clarity following the conclusion of a meeting with citizens from WEE Gbeyee, Zahn, and Lao chiefdoms in District #8. The meeting aimed to inform him about several development initiatives that the Project Management Committee (PMC) and the citizens have decided to undertake in the district.

During the meeting, PMC Chairman Mr. Larnon  Mator briefed the lawmaker on the WEE Gbeyee, Zahn, and Lao road rehabilitation projects. He explained that the citizens had agreed to rehabilitate the roads and felt it was necessary to inform their representative before commencing the initiative.

However, the lawmaker expressed his appreciation for the citizens’ commitment to development and assured them of his full support for the projects until their completion.

A final meeting is expected to be held in Zahn Yekeyee, where representatives from all the chiefdoms in the district will convene to finalize the development agenda.

The recent meeting, held in Lesonon Burtein—the hometown of the District #8 policymaker—brought together the Chief Elder of Zahn Chiefdom, the Chief Elder of Gbeyee Lowee Chiefdom, and women leaders from the three chiefdoms.
