Monrovia, Liberia – Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph has formally requested the Liberian Senate to approve and instruct the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct an audit on USAID funds allocated to government ministries and agencies between 2018 and 2025.

In his communication to Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, Senator Joseph emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the use of donor funds. He highlighted that USAID has been a key partner in Liberia’s development, providing financial and technical support across governance, infrastructure, education, health, and economic development.

The proposed audit aims to assess the allocation and disbursement of USAID funds, compliance with financial regulations, the effectiveness of funded projects, and any potential cases of mismanagement or misuse of funds.

The communication has been sent to the Senate Public Affairs Committee for review and will be brought back for debate. However, the Senate had previously constituted a joint committee to investigate the withdrawal of USAID funds, with a public hearing already held on the matter.

Senator Joseph stressed that ensuring accountability would strengthen Liberia’s partnership with USAID and secure future development assistance. He urged the Senate Plenary to approve the request and direct the GAC to commence the audit.

If approved, the audit will help reinforce good governance and responsible management of donor resources in Liberia.
