Ganta City, Nimba county……… Former senatorial candidate Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh has accused Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung of spending over $8million USD during the recently concluded Nimba County senatorial by-election.

Describing the expenditure as unprecedented, Madam Weh criticized the Vice President for allegedly nationalizing what she termed a local election. She expressed dismay over the use of the vice-presidential motorcade and the involvement of government officials from other counties who, according to her, campaigned from village to village in support of Representative Samuel Kogar, who eventually won the election and now serves as Nimba’s senator.

Weh asserted that the contest was no longer between herself and Rep. Kogar, but rather between her and Vice President Koung. She further alleged that citizens were pressured to support the Vice President’s preferred candidate.

The accusations were made during an appreciation event she held for motorcyclists, whom she praised for their unwavering support and critical role in facilitating her campaign, despite the overwhelming financial influence she said was exerted by the Vice President’s camp.

Madam Gongloe-Weh’s statements come despite no reports of campaign financing violations from the recently concluded Nimba County senatorial by-election, according to the National Elections Commission (NEC) and other national and international election observation groups.

In the 2025 Nimba County senatorial by-election held on April 22, independent candidate Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh received a total of 40,506 votes, accounting for 33.95% of the valid votes cast. Her main opponent, Representative Samuel Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), won the election with 62,136 votes, representing 52.08% of the total valid votes.

Following the announcement of the results by the National Elections Commission (NEC), Madam Gongloe-Weh conceded defeat and congratulated Mr. Kogar on his victory.

She expressed gratitude to her supporters and affirmed her commitment to continue advocating for development and democratic governance in Nimba County.
