More than 150 professionals have been certificated in the detection and prevention of financial and procurement fraud following the completion of a three-day intensive fraud examination symposium held in Paynesville.

The exercise, organized by the Liberia Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Chapter #198, brought together Certified Fraud Examiners, internal and external auditors, lawyers, law enforcement officers, investigators, bankers, risk and compliance professionals, and associates from both public and private institutions. The aim was to enhance their skills, broaden their knowledge, and strengthen national efforts to combat fraud.

The symposium, held at the Paynesville City Hall from 27 November to 2 December 2025, covered critical topics such as Integrating Fraud Risks Into Enterprise Risk Management and Red Flags and Fraud Schemes in Procurement and Asset Management. Facilitators emphasized practical tools and emerging global trends to help participants effectively detect and mitigate fraud.

Speaking to journalists at the close of the event, ACFE Liberia Chapter President, Atty. Augustine G. Chenoway, underscored the importance of collective responsibility in the fight against corruption and financial crimes. He stressed that each participant represents a vital link in strengthening systems of accountability across Liberia.

“Each of the participants represents a vital link in the chain of accountability, and together, they form a powerful network committed to protecting trust, transparency, and ethical leadership,” he stated.
Atty. Chenoway expressed optimism that the new skills gained will significantly enhance participants’ performance within their various institutions, ultimately aiding national anti-fraud efforts.

“We are excited that today we have more people on board who are sharpening their skills on fraud. Because of this training, we are seeing good reports. Liberia is a third-world country, and you do expect us to still be lacking behind, but we need to put more focus on the digital ecosystem. We have to develop the technical skills to arrest these issues,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Janet Jackson, a Certified Fraud Examiner and auditor, described the symposium as eye-opening and transformational. She expressed gratitude to the organizers and noted that the training has equipped participants with advanced techniques to identify, prevent, and address financial and procurement fraud.

“On behalf of my colleagues, we want to express our appreciation to the team for the training. To admit, it was indeed mind-blowing. With the training, I can say that we now have the skills, knowledge, and techniques to combat and arrest financial and procurement fraud,” Jackson remarked.

The ACFE Liberia Chapter says it remains committed to building a strong, ethical, and corruption-resistant workforce capable of safeguarding public and private resources across the country.
