MONROVIA, Liberia – Liberia’s Joint Security has made another major suspected cocaine seizure, intensifying the country’s fight against drug trafficking as authorities continue investigating the high-profile US$19 million cocaine case uncovered in June 2026.
The latest operation took place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, when Joint Security officers raided a private residence along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway and confiscated what many observers believe could be one of the largest suspected narcotics seizures in Liberia’s history.
During the operation, authorities arrested three suspects, including a Colombian national, a Spanish national, and a Liberian employed as a private security officer. The identities of the suspects have not yet been released.
Following their arrest, the three suspects along with the suspected cocaine and a private vehicle were taken to the headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Monrovia, where they remain in custody as investigators continue to question them.
Security authorities have not yet disclosed the exact quantity or estimated street value of the suspected cocaine. The substance is expected to undergo further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The latest seizure comes barely a month after Liberian authorities uncovered a separate shipment of suspected cocaine valued at more than US$19 million, a case that remains under active investigation and has drawn significant national and international attention.
The back-to-back operations have renewed concerns about Liberia’s vulnerability as a transit point for international drug trafficking networks. Authorities say investigations are continuing, and additional arrests are possible as security agencies work to determine whether the latest seizure is connected to the earlier US$19 million cocaine case.
The Joint Security has yet to issue a detailed public statement on the operation, but officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
