Monrovia, May 18, 2025 – The Ministry of Health has confirmed four active cases of Mpox in Liberia, with two cases reported in Montserrado County, and one each in Margibi and Sinoe Counties.
In a press statement issued Saturday, health officials said the case management pillar of the national response has been activated. One patient in Montserrado has already been transferred to the National Infectious Disease Center for treatment.
The Ministry has urged the public to remain calm and follow key preventive measures, including reporting symptoms such as rash, fever, and headache, and avoiding close contact with others if ill. Suspected cases will be managed by trained medical personnel, and all confirmed cases will receive professional care.
In a significant boost to the national response, Liberia has received Mpox vaccines. So far, over 2,000 people in Cape Mount, Nimba, Grand Bassa, and Sinoe Counties have been vaccinated. The Ministry noted that vaccines are being administered to high-risk groups, including confirmed contacts of Mpox cases and frontline workers.
Surveillance and awareness campaigns have been intensified in Lofa, Montserrado, and Margibi Counties, with plans to roll out additional vaccinations soon.
The Ministry thanked citizens for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health across the country.
