Monrovia, Liberia — Honorable Solomon Cheapoo Sr., a former representative contestant in Montserrado County’s thirteenth district, is calling for a vigorous rebranding of Liberia’s national security structure as the country prepares to assume its role as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to Hon. Cheapoo, building a positive image of the Country’s Security system would further enhance its performance at the UNSC, thus stressing the need for swift action.
“If Liberia is to contribute meaningfully to global peace and security, now is the time to begin strengthening all facets of our law enforcement and national security architecture,” he said.
He outlined a comprehensive vision that includes reinforcing democratic principles and upholding the core values of the UN Security Council in upholding international peace, promoting friendly relations among nations, and advancing cooperation on critical issues such as human rights and humanitarian aid.
He urged the government to strategically engage international partners for technical and logistical support for the advancement of key security institutions in Liberia. For instance, he highlighted the need for additional recruitment of law enforcers, capacity enhancement of current officers and adequate provision of logistics.
Cheapoo named the Ministry of Justice, Judiciary, Liberia National Police, Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia Coast Guard, Liberia Immigration Service, National Fire Service, and the National Security Agency as institutions the government should focused on rebranding.
He believes such initiatives would not only strengthen national security but also create thousands of jobs, thereby addressing the country’s unemployment challenges.
“By investing in human capital, we position Liberia as a source of capable peacekeepers ready to serve in UN missions worldwide,” Hon. Cheapoo Stated “Empowering our people through strategic national service is a step toward sustainable progress,”
Cheapoo stressed that this strategic national service initiative will send a strong signal to investors that Liberia is stable, secure, and committed to good governance.
Cheapoo call comes amid rising public recommendations from Liberians both home and abroad aimed at adequately preparing the nation as it prepares to assume the global role.
