Bong County Council Chairman Aaron Sackie-Fenlah, has addressed the controversial proposed amendments to the Local Government Act of 2018.

During his appearance on the Thursday, June 19, 2025 Edition Super Bongese Radio leading talk show “Digging Deep” in Gbarnga, Mr. Fenlah highlighted not only the implications of these changes but also the functioning of the council since its establishment.

The Council Chairman, speaking with conviction, emphasized that any alterations to the power of law could take decades to positively impact Liberia’s growth.

According to Mr. Fenlah, his statement was made with all clear conscience, without manipulation of political power.

He expressed concern over the historical context of governance in Liberia, highlighting the consequences of past policies that have often led to instability and loss of life.

Reflecting on the decentralization efforts that have fallen short, he stated, “According to records, two hundred and fifty thousand people died in Liberia.”

He pointed out that the challenges facing the nation stem from a lack of understanding and misdirection during the country’s formative years.

During the interview, Sackie-Fenlah also shed light on the council’s ongoing efforts to address critical issues, including economic growth, educational development, and healthcare.

He challenged listeners to consider whether Liberia’s growth metrics were accurately recorded and analyzed. “Is it really recorded properly to analyze the property rate, to analyze the health facility group? I will tell you, you are not informed,” he remarked, urging for a more informed public discourse.

The council chairman did not shy away from critiquing the legislative body, accusing lawmakers of potentially detrimental actions.

“They want to destroy Liberia back on us,” he claimed. His passionate stance reflects a deep concern for the future of Bong County and Liberia as a whole.

Sackie-Fenlah’s unveiled the pressing need for oversight and accountability within the government, as he argued that the Ministry of Local Governance should be more actively involved in local affairs.

“They have oversight,” he stated, challenging the narrative of legislative inadequacy.

Meanwhile, the Bong County Council Chairman assured that he will remain critical in navigating the path toward a more stable and prosperous future for the country.
