MONROVIA – The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL), in collaboration with Kvinna till Kvinna Liberia and other partners, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, launched a Photo Gallery of Peace and Reconciliation as part of efforts to preserve Liberia’s history, promote national healing, and strengthen calls for social justice and the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court.
The exhibition, held under the European Union-funded PEACEGEN Project at the WIPNET Center in Sinkor, showcases photographs chronicling Liberia’s civil conflicts, peace negotiations, democratic transition, and reconciliation process. Organizers said the initiative is intended to encourage reflection on the country’s past while fostering dialogue on accountability, reconciliation, and sustainable peace.
Providing an overview of the initiative, FeJAL President Lisa T. Diasay said the exhibition serves as a bridge between Liberia’s past and its future by preserving historical moments that should never be forgotten.
“This photo gallery is more than an exhibition of images; it is a living record of Liberia’s journey through conflict, resilience, and peace. By preserving these historical moments, we are encouraging Liberians, especially young people, to reflect on our past, embrace reconciliation, and continue advocating for justice as the foundation for sustainable peace,” Diasay said.
Delivering special remarks, Comfort Baysah, the Program Manager of Kvinna till Kvinna Liberia said lasting peace can only be sustained when justice, inclusion, and community participation remain central to national development. She noted that the initiative provides an opportunity for Liberians to engage in meaningful dialogue on reconciliation while recognizing the vital contributions of women and survivors to the country’s peacebuilding efforts.
“Sustainable peace cannot be achieved without justice and the meaningful participation of women, survivors, and young people. Through this initiative, we are creating a space for dialogue, remembrance, and collective action that strengthens Liberia’s commitment to reconciliation, accountability, and inclusive nation-building,” Baysah said.
The keynote address was delivered by Cllr. Asuta Bah-Kenneth, Head of the Anti-Corruption Division at the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court, on behalf of Executive Director Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu. She reflected on the critical role Liberian women played during the civil war, recalling how they mobilized across religious and social divides to pray, advocate for peace, and demand an end to the violence.
She said the determination of those women remains a powerful symbol of Liberia’s resilience and should continue to inspire the country’s pursuit of justice and reconciliation. Bah-Kenneth also outlined ongoing efforts toward establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court, describing accountability as an essential pillar of lasting peace and national healing. She said the Office remains committed to working with the government, civil society, and international partners to advance the process and ensure justice for victims of the civil wars.
Following the formal program, participants toured the photo gallery, viewing images that captured key moments in Liberia’s history—from the devastation of war to the country’s transition toward peace and democratic governance. Organizers said the exhibition is intended to preserve the nation’s collective memory and encourage future generations to uphold peace, justice, and respect for human rights.
The event brought together officials of the European Union Delegation to Liberia, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the Women in Peacebuilding Network (WIPNET), representatives of government ministries and agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, journalists, students, and peace advocates, all reaffirming their commitment to advancing reconciliation and sustainable peace in Liberia.
