Washington, D.C., October 17, 2025 — Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, has held high-level talks with U.S. Secretary of State and Acting National Security Advisor Marco Rubio at the White House aimed at deepening cooperation between Liberia and the United States in areas of economic development, migration reform, and strategic investment.
The meeting, held on October 16, builds on the progress made during President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s landmark visit to President Donald Trump in July 2025. Minister Nyanti reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to working closely with the United States on infrastructure, mineral development, and improved mobility frameworks.
“This government is determined to turn Liberia’s natural wealth into shared prosperity for all Liberians,” Minister Nyanti stated, emphasizing that Liberia’s stability and democratic values make it a reliable partner for responsible U.S. investment.
Secretary Rubio welcomed Liberia’s renewed engagement and pledged America’s continued support for Liberia’s governance and development agenda. He also confirmed plans by the United States to restore longer visa durations for Liberians — a major step toward re-establishing visa reciprocity — in recognition of Liberia’s ongoing reforms.
The dialogue also focused on migration and security issues. Minister Nyanti outlined the work of Liberia’s Presidential Taskforce on Migration, which addresses immigration concerns and promotes fair mobility frameworks.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister had represented Liberia at a U.S. policy forum alongside Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, where she highlighted Liberia’s leadership role in advancing transparent migration policies in Africa.
“This engagement with the United States is not only a diplomatic success; it is a victory for every Liberian who believes in a future defined by opportunity, dignity, and progress,” Minister Nyanti said after the meeting.
The White House talks concluded with both sides agreeing to explore mechanisms for strengthening Liberia’s migration management systems and leveraging its mineral wealth to create jobs and spur economic growth.
According to a post on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official Facebook page, the meeting marks “a new chapter of cooperation anchored in shared values, peace, and prosperity” between Liberia and the United States.
