The Director of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Col. Warsuwah Barvoul Sr., is urging the public to comply with the ongoing fire extinguisher enforcement exercise, which is part of the National Vehicle Inspection.

Speaking at a press conference, Col. Barvoul emphasized that the initiative is in the best interest of Liberians and foreign residents to prevent loss of lives and property.

“The law says everyone should have a fire extinguisher. It is for your safety. You buy a car worth $11,000, yet you refuse to buy a fire extinguisher? If anything happens, it’s your fault,” he cautioned.

Col. Barvoul further highlighted that fire extinguishers are not only necessary for vehicles but are also vital for homes. He clarified that the LNFS does not sell fire extinguishers but has certified vendors authorized to provide them at reasonable prices.

The Fire Chief stated that the only fee required is a $15 tax clearance, payable to the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

“The inspection is not limited to vehicles; we are also conducting home inspections. After registering at the Ministry of Transport, you’ll receive a slip for the $15 payment to the LRA. This payment is lawful. We have certified three vendors—Gesco, Moneh and Forever 21- where you can purchase fire extinguishers,” he explained.

Col. Barvoul also announced an awareness campaign focused on fire extinguisher usage, particularly targeting children, who are often linked to fire incidents.
