The United States has expressed its support for President Joseph Boakai’s renewed dedication to developing and improving Liberia’s rail infrastructure. On October 10, President Boakai signed Executive Order No. 136, establishing the National Railway Authority (NRA).

This new body will be tasked with managing Liberia’s national rail assets, ensuring their efficient and equitable use across various sectors, including mining and the transportation of passengers and goods.

The NRA’s creation is seen as a pivotal move in advancing Liberia’s economic growth, particularly by ensuring fair and regulated access to rail infrastructure for all stakeholders.

The United States highlighted the importance of well-managed rail infrastructure, noting that it will significantly contribute to Liberia’s economic progress by enhancing the efficiency of key industries and facilitating broader development goals.

“The United States welcomes President Boakai’s renewed commitment to the development and enhancement of Liberia’s rail infrastructure.” a statement posted on the US Embassy Facebook page noted.

It added “Executive Order No. 136 signed by the President on October 10, establishes the National Railway Authority (NRA) to oversee and manage Liberia’s National Rail Assets, ensuring the efficient and equitable use of rail infrastructure by all stakeholders, particularly in the mining sector and for the transportation of passengers and goods.”

As Liberia continues to expand its infrastructure, the establishment of the NRA is expected to bolster the country’s capacity to attract foreign investments, stimulate domestic commerce and improve overall transportation networks.
