The Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) says approximately 4.7 million United States dollars is available for the execution of the Legislative Support Project (LSP) across the country.

Speaking before the Liberian Senate on Thursday, December 5, 2025, LACE Executive Director Julius Sele explained that although the Legislature initially appropriated 11.8 million in the 2024 budget, the amount was later reduced to 5.3 million in the recast budget.

Mr. Sele revealed that of this amount, the Ministry of Finance has provided 4.7 million dollars to commence the project.

He clarified that under the guidelines of the LSP, no lawmaker will have direct access to the funds. Instead, they are required to submit a proposal detailing the project they intend to implement through LACE.

This clarification follows speculations that lawmakers were allocating 100,000 dollars each to implement legislative projects for personal benefit.

Mr. Sele further explained that, based on precedent and the framework established during former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration, appropriations are allocated to LACE through a special account specifically for project implementation.

His appearance before the Senate was prompted by a request from Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, who sought a status report and update on the Legislative Support Project.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sele is expected to reappear before the Senate on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. for a consultative meeting in the Pro Tempore’s conference room.
