Monrovia, Liberia: On January 21, 2025, Vice President Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung officially launched the innovative “Okadamotto” mobile application at a grand event held at Paynesville City Hall. The launch was attended by several government officials, including Paynesville Mayor Robert Soluntul Bestman, II, marking a significant milestone for the country’s transportation sector.
“Okadamotto” is a groundbreaking app that offers a convenient platform for passengers to instantly book motorcycle rides and track their journeys in real-time. The app aims to eliminate pricing inconsistencies by standardizing fares, ensuring passengers pay a fair amount based on distance traveled. Additionally, it facilitates safer and more reliable transportation throughout Liberia.
Vice President Koung, in his keynote address, emphasized the app’s potential to transform the motorcycling industry by encouraging motorcyclists to view their occupation not as a permanent career, but as a stepping stone toward achieving greater goals. He urged motorcyclists to invest wisely in their riding activities, sharing insights from his own experiences in business, including money exchange and taxi driving.
Koung also highlighted the importance of unity among motorcycle unions to create a more cohesive industry and called on heavy-duty vehicle operators to exercise caution while driving in city areas, promoting safer coordination with motorcyclists.
Paynesville Mayor Robert Soluntul Bestman, II, expressed strong support for the launch of “Okadamotto,” emphasizing its potential to improve the transportation system in Paynesville and across Liberia. He commended the initiative for offering a more reliable and efficient transportation option, which he believes will benefit both passengers and motorcyclists. Mayor Bestman also stressed the importance of safety on the roads and reiterated the city’s commitment to supporting efforts that promote safer practices for all road users.
Dr. Mohammed Sumaila, CEO of the company behind the app, explained that “Okadamotto” also offers a comprehensive training program for motorcyclists, focusing on essential safety skills to help reduce the high accident rates within the industry. As part of this initiative, helmets are provided free of charge to motorcyclists who enroll in the safety program, underscoring the commitment to safer road practices across the country.
This new development represents a significant step towards modernizing transportation in Liberia, improving both convenience and safety for passengers and motorcyclists alike.
