November 1, 2024, Monrovia, Liberia — The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) has called on President Joseph Nyumah Boakai to urgently fulfill his commitment to appoint a new President for the University of Liberia. The association, representing over 400 faculty members, held a General Assembly at the university’s Fendall Campus, where members stressed the need for new leadership to address pressing issues affecting faculty and staff welfare.
Under the leadership of Dr. Edna G. Johnny, ULFA emphasized that the mandate of the current Acting President has expired, and the university awaits the installation of a permanent leader, as recommended by the “Presidential Search Committee.” ULFA members resolved that they would not resume academic duties until the appointment is made and critical demands are met.
In addition to the appointment of a new President, ULFA’s demands include the implementation of a 40% salary increase previously promised, prompt payment of arrears, improved working conditions, and a comprehensive audit of the university’s operations. Faculty members insist that these issues must be addressed for the institution to effectively serve its academic community and the nation.
