The University of Liberia Student Union has officially distanced itself from the planned “March on the Capitol” protest in Monrovia.

The student group claims that the protest is financially motivated, alleging that Speaker Fonati Koffa has provided $50,000 to the Campaigners for Change, the organizers of the protest.

At a news conference on Monday, students stated that Speaker Koffa has reportedly paid various youth and student groups to demonstrate on his behalf on November 5, 2024, in Monrovia.

William Sando, the student representative, urged all University of Liberia students to refrain from participating in what he termed the “induced Pro-Speaker Protest.”

Meanwhile, the protest organizers argue that the attempt by a majority of lawmakers to remove the Speaker is unconstitutional, and they are mobilizing to surround the Capitol Building in support of the Speaker against what they describe as renegade lawmakers.
