Monrovia, June 16, 2025 — Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe is under heavy public criticism following a Facebook post in which he announced that his 90-year-old mother’s birthday celebration would be held by invitation only.
In a post made on Monday June 16, 2025, the Senator informed his followers that the event had been moved from the EJS Ministerial Complex to the Paynesville City Hall, but made it clear that only those with formal invitations would be allowed to attend. “Dear Guest! The venue for mom’s birthday celebration is relocated… This announcement is only for those that are formally invited and were given invitation,” Snowe wrote.
The post has since sparked outrage on social media, generating over 660 comments by publication time. Many Liberians, including residents of Bomi County and his followers, have accused the Senator of snubbing ordinary citizens and prioritizing elites—contrary to his public image during election campaigns.
One Facebook user, Martin M. Kromah, commented: “2029 you should be invited before coming in to any of our county because you can jump for county to county just to say you are the one established those counties.”
Others, like Austin Zarwolo Gonletuo Bonkuo Gbay, echoed similar sentiments: “It’s only for the big boys… but in the end the locals will be in the rain to vote for y’all.”
Activist Marsin Leader Tarpeh condemned the Senator’s post as an example of political hypocrisy. “Birthday celebration is by invitation but voting time is for begging the citizens to take risk? This is WRONG Senator Edwin Snowe!” he wrote.
Several commenters suggested that the Senator’s real supporters—the grassroots voters—were being excluded from his personal life despite having stood by him during elections. “The real supporters will only see Facebook post from you,” noted user Nyan Flomo Jr.
As of now, Senator Snowe has not publicly responded to the criticism.
