Bong: Citizens of Salala District have renewed their support for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) and the National Anti-Corruption Court (NACC), calling for accountability, justice, and an end to impunity in Liberia.
The endorsement was conveyed by Bong County District Six Representative, Moima Briggs Mensah during a reconciliation meeting with residents Saturday, June 20, 2026. Addressing the gathering, Representative Mensah stressed the importance of holding accountable those responsible for atrocities committed during Liberia’s civil conflict, while also condemning the misuse of public resources for personal gain.
“The practice of using government resources for personal gain and taking the law into one’s own hands must stop,” she said. Those responsible for grave violations committed during the civil war must be held accountable.”
Representative Mensah reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the establishment of both courts and pledged continued backing for the work of Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu and ongoing national justice efforts.
The reconciliation program featured presentations from Dr. Barbu, Executive Director of the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L), and Madam Esther Davis Yango, Executive Director of the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL).
Speaking of women’s participation in grassroots politics and economic empowerment, Madam Yango urged women to become more actively involved in governance and development initiatives. “Women deserve a special place in Liberia’s democratic governance, and their rights must be protected, she said, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities in decision-making and economic activities.
For his part, Dr. Barbu highlighted the role of accountability in conflict resolution and sustainable peace. He encouraged residents to engage political opponents peacefully and avoid actions that could undermine national unity. Political accountability remains essential to Liberia’s development, and initiatives such as this reconciliation program play a vital role in promoting peace and reconciliation,” Dr. Barbu noted.
The event brought together local leaders, women, youth, elders, and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen reconciliation, democratic participation, and accountability within the district.
