Ganta, Nimba county –—-The body of Morris Darwon, a motorcyclist from Soe Senlay, was discovered yesterday in Gbahn Town,  located approximately 15 minutes from Ganta. The discovery has sent fear through the community and raised serious concerns about the safety of motorcyclists in  Ganta.

Motorcyclists have  become targets of armed robberies, often involving violent attacks and In these incidents, they are assaulted or killed, and their motorcycles are stolen by unknown individuals.

The incident comes shortly after the shooting death of 25-year-old motorcyclist Patrick Nagbe  in the Glenyiluu Community of Ganta, which occurred just days ago.

 In response to the rising wave of attacks on motorcyclists by armed individuals, the Liberia National Police (LNP) Ganta detachment has imposed a curfew aimed at regulating traffic and enhancing security in the city.

Speaking to DN News Nimba county correspondent , Ganta Police Commander Colonel Christopher Monsuo explained that the curfew is intended to safeguard the lives of motorcyclists and curb the increasing crime rate in the area.

Under the new measure, no commercial motorcyclist is permitted to operate between 10 PM and 6 AM. The restriction applies to all public motorcyclists, except those with private bikes and valid reasons for being out during the curfew hours.

However, Colonel Monsuo emphasized that the decision is necessary to minimize the risk faced by motorcyclists and improve overall safety in Ganta.

For his part, Nimba District #1 Representative Samuel Brown Sr. has expressed his full support for the curfew imposed by the Liberia National Police (LNP) in Ganta to address rising security concerns.

According to Representative Brown, the decision to implement the measure was reached in close consultation with his office. He emphasized the importance of the curfew in protecting lives and property amidst the recent increase in attacks on motorcyclists by armed individuals.

He urged police officers to take all necessary steps to enforce the curfew effectively and ensure the safety of residents. Additionally, he called on motorcyclists and the general public to comply with the new regulations for the betterment of the community.
