Liberia’s Agriculture Minister, .J Alexander Nuetah, has announced the government’s determination to enhance the rubber sector in the country, to promote value addition and job creation
He believes that improving this industry is crucial for creating job opportunities for Liberian citizens.
The minister emphasized that the current performance of the rubber sector is lacking, and the government aims to identify and resolve the issues causing these problems.
Minister Nuetah addressed reporters, sharing that one of his main goals as the Agriculture Minister is to boost the rubber sector’s performance. He recognizes the importance of rubber as a significant contributor to Liberia’s economy and is committed to making it thrive.
The minister said his vision aligns with the government’s broader plans under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s leadership to improve Agriculture through it’s ARREST Agenda
During his remarks, Minister Nuetah highlighted the potential of a vibrant rubber industry to generate export revenue for the agricultural sector. He expressed that with the right support from the government, the rubber sector could grow, providing more jobs and increasing foreign exchange for the country. This, he believes, is essential for the overall economic development of Liberia.
The minister pointed out that collaboration is vital for the success of the rubber sector. He urged smallholder farmers, concessionaires, and other key players in the industry to work together.
By doing so, he said they can help the government implement important policies under the ARREST Agenda, which aims to improve various sectors, including agriculture.
Furthermore, Minister Nuetah assured the public that he is actively working with President Boakai’s office to establish a National Rubber Sector Stalling Committee. This committee will collaborate with the Rubber Development Fund Incorporated (RDFI) to address pressing issues within the rubber industry. The minister believes that this initiative will lead to meaningful changes and improvements in the sector.
Minister Nuetah made these comments during a recent National Conference on the Rubber Industry held in Gbarnga. The conference was organized by the RDFI and focused on “rebranding the rubber industry in Liberia.” The event gathered stakeholders from various sectors to discuss strategies for revitalizing the rubber industry.
At the conference, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the rubber sector. He encouraged all participants to share their ideas and solutions to the challenges facing the industry. The minister said by bringing together diverse perspectives, the industry will create a stronger and more resilient rubber sector.
