‎‎Monrovia, Liberia: The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Transport, on Monday officially launched a new set of license plates for vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles.‎

According to the Ministry, the new license plates feature advanced security elements and a classification system for vehicles and motorcycles operating on Liberian roads. The plates take immediate effect, except for those whose current plates have not yet expired. They are also printed in specific colors to allow for easier verification by law enforcement authorities.‎

‎Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister for Land Transport, Rudolph G. Natt, Jr., said the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s policy of renewing license plates every five years. “This reform is consistent with the Ministry’s five-year license plate renewal policy and is intended to strengthen vehicle identification, enhance law enforcement operations, and ensure greater safety on our roads,” he stated. He added that the new plates will enhance law enforcement efficiency, improve public safety, boost revenue generation, and promote transparency and accountability.‎

‎Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler also emphasized that the initiative forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to revitalize the transport sector. “Beyond improving regulation in the transport sector, the new license plates will significantly contribute to domestic revenue generation and support the government’s broader national development agenda,” Minister Tyler noted.‎

‎Members of partnered government agencies, private institutions, and other stakeholders in the transport sector welcomed the launch of the new license plates, stressing the importance of improved service delivery and transparency. One stakeholder described the initiative as timely, saying, “The introduction of these new plates reflects a positive step toward transparency and efficiency, and we believe it will improve service delivery across the transport sector.”
