The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has voiced deep concern regarding credible reports that qualified and officially accepted contractors of the National Elections Commission (NEC) have been suddenly replaced in Nimba County, just ahead of the crucial Senatorial by-election.
Alarming information received by the ANC suggests that these vetted, trained, and approved contractors are being substituted with individuals believed to be loyal supporters of Representative Samuel Kogar—a candidate in the ongoing by-election who has significant backing from the Unity Party government.
“This blatant interference in the electoral process jeopardizes the integrity and fairness of the upcoming by-election, putting our candidate, Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, at a distinct disadvantage,” stated the ANC. “Replacing neutral and trained NEC personnel with political loyalists not only undermines the Commission’s independence but also raises serious concerns about potential voter manipulation and the overall credibility of the Nimba County by-election.”
The ANC is calling for the National Elections Commission (NEC) to conduct an immediate investigation into this matter and urges intervention from national and international observers.
“We demand that the NEC clarify the rationale behind these last-minute personnel changes and reinstate all legitimate contractors to their positions. Anything less would represent a severe breach of public trust and set a dangerous precedent for our democracy—something we cannot accept,” the statement concluded.
The ANC reiterates its commitment to a peaceful electoral process and urges all stakeholders—especially the NEC—to uphold the values of impartiality, legality, and accountability in their responsibilities.
