[Capitol Hill-] In a significant step towards enhancing integrity within law enforcement, fifty officers from the Liberia National Police (LNP) have been empowered from a one day anti-corruption and integrity-building training program. The initiative was officially launched on Thursday at the headquarters of The Liberia National Police, marking a collaborative effort between the LNP and the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), with sponsorship from the Swedish Embassy in Liberia.

During the launch, Anderson D. Miamen, Executive Director of CENTAL, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with law enforcement agencies to combat corruption effectively.

He outlined the training’s objectives, which include improving participants’ knowledge of anti-corruption laws and fostering a culture of accountability and ethical behavior within the police force.

“We are committed to building and sustaining a culture of integrity among officers in the Liberia National Police. This training is essential for equipping our law enforcement personnel with the necessary tools to uphold ethical standards.” Anderson Miamen, asserted.

Meanwhile, Police Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman also addressed those officers expressing gratitude to CENTAL for conducting this initiative. He underscored that policing is fundamentally a service-oriented profession rather than one based solely on authority and force.

“Accountability, integrity, and ethical behavior must be sustained at the highest level,” Inspector General Gregory Coleman asserted, reinforcing the need for officers to embody these principles in their daily duties.

Additionally, the training program aims to equip LNP officers with practical skills and knowledge that will help them overcome challenges related to corruption while promoting transparency within their operations. By investing in their professional development, CENTAL and the Swedish Embassy hope to foster a more trustworthy police force that can effectively serve and protect the community.

The collaboration between CENTAL and the LNP signifies a proactive approach to addressing these challenges head-on, ensuring that police officers are not only enforcers of the law but also an exemplars of integrity and ethical conduct.
