KAKATA__The Center For Transparency And Accountability In Liberia (CENTAL) has concluded a one-day Anti-Corruption Dialogue in Kakata, MarGibi County, under the them: “Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability in Liberia”.

The event was held on 10th April, 2015 and brought together over thirty (30) participants from a broad range of sectors across MarGibi County, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Education, Kakata Service Center, MarGibi County Council, and people living with disabilities, among others.

In an exclusive interview following the dialogue, Mr. Tarwon Gensee, Project Manager for the Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability in Liberia project, explained that the initiative is funded by the Government of Ireland. It’s being implemented in Bong, Grand Bassa, and MarGibi counties through a collaborative effort by CENTAL, NAYMOTE Partners For Democratic Development, and the Center For Democratic Development.

The project according to Manager Gensee aims to increase awareness about the impacts of corruption in Liberia and to empower citizens to report cases and allegations of corrupt practices in their respective communities.

Mr. Gensee asserted that the fight against corruption cannot succeed without the active involvement of community members and local leaders, thus urging all citizens to report suspected acts of corruption to institutions such as the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), CENTAL, and other integrity-based organizations.

Highlighting MarGibi County share of the 2025 National Budget of an approved amount of US$ 4,933,084, Mr. Gensee cautioned heads of key sectors in the county to ensure the funds are used transparently and effectively. He reaffirmed CENTAL commitment to monitoring and advocating for the proper utilization of budgetary allocations across sectors.

Gensee urged citizens of MarGibi to report corruption without fear, emphasizing that Liberia has laws in place to protect whistleblowers and their privacies ensuring accountability at all levels of government.
