Monrovia – Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, Liberia’s Ambassador-designate to the United States, has committed to strengthening ties between Liberia and the United States by encouraging American students to study in Liberia if he is confirmed by the Liberian Senate.

Speaking during his confirmation hearing before the Liberian Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Conteh outlined an ambitious vision for fostering educational and cultural exchange between the two nations.

“We aim to strengthen our culture through education exchange programs. We will encourage American students to study in Liberia while providing opportunities for Liberian students to pursue higher education in the United States,” Dr. Conteh stated.

He emphasized that such initiatives would foster greater understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Dr. Conteh also highlighted plans to work with U.S. institutions to revitalize the U.S. Cultural Foundation, creating more opportunities for young Liberians to study in the United States.

As part of his strategy, he intends to leverage partnerships with American universities to secure scholarships for Liberian students and attract investments in schools, vocational training, and higher education institutions in Liberia.

A significant focus of the proposed partnership is the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and entrepreneurship programs. By strengthening relationships between universities in both countries, Dr. Conteh believes Liberia’s education sector can be enhanced, equipping Liberians with the skills needed to drive private sector growth and innovation.

Beyond education, Dr. Conteh pledged to foster a strong relationship with the Liberian diaspora in the United States. He said this collaboration would help promote private sector development and attract U.S. investments into Liberia’s education and other critical sectors.

“This is the right time for the United States and Liberia to revitalize our historic ties through meaningful collaboration. Education is critical to Liberia’s future, and we must prioritize it as a pillar of our partnership,” Dr. Conteh remarked.

Dr. Al-Hasan Conteh made the statement when he appeared before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee for Confirmation hearing.
