Lisbon, Portugal – May 23, 2025 — His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Teeko Tozay Yorlay, Sr., Liberia newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Portuguese Republic, is making significant strides in strengthening bilateral relations between Liberia and Portugal.

On Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Portuguese time, Ambassador Yorlay formally presented a clean copy of his letters of credence to Madam Fernanda Coelho, Deputy Secretary-General at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During this pivotal meeting, Ambassador Yorlay outlined Liberia’s urgent priorities centered on Economic and Development Diplomacy, emphasizing the country’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and international cooperation.

Following this, Ambassador Yorlay engaged with Mr. Francisco Vaz Patto, Chief of State Protocol, who provided detailed guidance on the ceremonial protocols for the upcoming official presentation of credentials to the President of Portugal.

Ambassador Yorlay is scheduled to present his letters of credence to His Excellency Marcelo Nuno Duarte Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, on Monday, May 26, 2025. This ceremony will mark a formal milestone in Liberia-Portugal diplomatic relations.

During the event, Ambassador Yorlay is expected to deliver a special message from His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, underscoring the importance of deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Since his arrival in Lisbon on May 22, 2025, Ambassador Yorlay has reported a smooth and productive start to his mission, signaling a promising chapter for Liberia diplomatic engagement in Europe.
