Duogee Town, Grand Gedeh County – A Christmas Day celebration turned tragic in Duogee Town, Grand Gedeh County, when a 13-year-old boy, Emmanuel Jonnay, lost his life due to an accidental shooting involving a single-barrel gun.
According to eyewitness accounts provided to DN News Liberia, Emmanuel was visiting a friend, Justin, when the incident happened. Four other boys, Jerome Wilson, Richmond Wilson, Sampson Chayee, and Levis Chayee—all aged between 10 and 13—were also present.
Sources confirmed that the firearm, reportedly owned by Justin’s father, Zargba Totaye, was accessible at the time of the incident.
A 15-man corridor jury report revealed that Emmanuel died from a gunshot wound under his right arm. The jury also noted the presence of a toy gun beneath Emmanuel’s feet when his body was discovered.
The tragic event has left the community in shock, with calls for stronger safety measures around firearms in households.
Meanwhile, Zarkpa Totaye, owner of the gun, is placed at the Zleh Town Police custody going through interrogation. While the deceased body has been lay to rest.
