Monrovia, Liberia — The ruling Unity Party (UP) National Executive Committee, through a resolution has once more criticized the Former Ruling Coalition for Democratic Change on allegations of depleting the state’s coffers during its six years rule of the country.

In a scathing critique of the former administration’s economic record, UP’s NEC ‘s resolution highlighted the severe financial challenges inherited by the current UP-led government under President Joseph Boakai.

The Unity Party pointed to “overwhelming evidence” of economic mismanagement by the previous government, accusing it of depleting resources and leaving Liberia with a staggering debt burden exceeding $2 billion.

According to the resolution, the previous administration’s handling of the economy not only drained the national coffers but also significantly increased the country’s financial liabilities.

The UP described the actions as “woeful and diabolical,” indicating the severity of the mismanagement that the current leadership now seeks to rectify.

In the resolution, the Unity Party reaffirmed its support for President Boakai, who assumed office in January 2024, emphasizing his commitment to steering the country towards economic stability and growth.

The party’s leadership outlined the President’s National Development Plan, known as the ARREST Agenda.

This comprehensive strategy focuses on key pillars, including Agriculture, Road development, Rule of law, Education, Sanitation/Health, and Tourism.

The plan aims to tackle the systemic issues inherited from the previous regime and promote sustainable development.

The Executive Committee underscored its determination to address the myriad challenges facing Liberia, such as inadequate infrastructure, poor road conditions, and the weaknesses in the educational and healthcare systems. It also pledged to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance, urging the government to expedite audits and prosecute those involved in corruption.

Unity Party officials called on all ministries, agencies, and commissions to align with the President’s vision, emphasizing the need for integrity and professionalism. The committee stressed that unity and collective effort are essential for the successful implementation of the ARREST Agenda, which aims to transform Liberia’s economic landscape and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

“The Unity Party remains committed to fostering strong government-party relations and ensuring that the administration delivers on its promises to the Liberian people.” The resolution concluded!
