The National Chairman of the Unity Party, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to tackling Liberia’s challenges and delivering on its promises of development and reform.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters on January 22, 2025.
Chairman Tarpeh reflected on the first anniversary of the Unity Party’s leadership following its victory in the 2023 general elections.
Expressing gratitude to Liberians for entrusting the nation’s leadership to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Tarpeh emphasized that the government’s “Rescue Mission” is more than a slogan but a call to action against systemic issues, including poverty and corruption.
Highlighting tangible progress, the Chairman pointed to the construction of 50 kilometers of paved roads in critical areas such as Nimba County, Monrovia, and the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway.
Long-neglected southeastern corridors have been opened, while improvements in Lofa and Montserrado Counties have enhanced connectivity and reduced travel time.
He further lauded the administration’s efforts in stabilizing commodity prices, noting that Liberia now enjoys some of the lowest petroleum prices in Africa.
He also acknowledged significant strides in improving access to clean water in Monrovia and clearing urban streets of sewage, which has enhanced public health and sanitation.
In January 2025, the government introduced a salary increase for 28,200 civil servants, including health workers and security personnel, reversing the previous administration’s “harmonization” policy.
It also implemented insurance coverage for 5,000 police officers and raised the earnings of specialist doctors, demonstrating a commitment to improving living standards across the public sector.
The Chairman emphasized the government’s resolve to combat corruption, citing recent audits of key institutions like the Central Bank of Liberia and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority.
These audits uncovered mismanagement and resulted in the suspension and indictment of implicated officials, including members of the previous administration.
“We call on the judiciary and relevant agencies to expedite the prosecution of corrupt officials, ensuring accountability and justice for all Liberians,” Tarpeh stated.
He urged President Boakai to intensify anti-corruption efforts, particularly in addressing issues highlighted in the Liberia Telecommunications Authority audit.
Rev. Tarpeh also called on the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to declare the war on narcotics a national emergency.
He urged schools, community leaders, and local governments to join forces in combating the drug crisis that threatens the youth population.
Addressing unemployment, the Chairman underscored the need to provide opportunities for young people and partisans who contributed to the Unity Party’s electoral victory.
“The Liberian people demand solutions, not excuses,” he declared, warning underperforming officials to deliver results or face dismissal.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to its ARREST Agenda, focusing on agriculture, roads, education, sanitation, and tourism.
Plans to empower and train Liberia’s youth were also highlighted as essential to driving national development.
The Unity Party extended congratulations to Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon on his election as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Chairman Tarpeh urged lawmakers to unite and prioritize the welfare of all Liberians while advancing President Boakai’s legislative agenda.
Condolences were also extended to the people of Nimba County for the loss of Senator Prince Y. Johnson, whose contributions were acknowledged as vital to the party’s electoral success.
Rev. Tarpeh reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to fostering transparency, promoting integrity, and achieving sustainable development. “Progress is only possible through unity and resilience.
Together, we will build a brighter future for our nation under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership,” he stated.
The Unity Party pledged to remain steadfast in delivering on its promises, ensuring Liberia’s journey toward stability, growth, and prosperity remains on track.
