DN News has been informed of the defection of five pro-Speaker lawmakers to the anti-Koffa bloc.
Over the weekend, our source informed us that five additional representatives joined the anti-Koffa bloc.
“We will remove the Speaker. Last night, five more lawmakers joined us here at the hotel,” our source highlighted.
Initially, 47 lawmakers signed a resolution to remove House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa. Four of the 47 lawmakers rescinded their decision, leaving the anti-Koffa bloc with 43 lawmakers, while the Speaker retained the support of 30 representatives.
According to the House’s standing rules, two-thirds of the members are required to remove a Speaker. The majority bloc is in search of one more lawmaker to reach the necessary two-thirds, which is 49 lawmakers.
The majority bloc is currently camping at the RLJ Hotel along the RIA highway.
