On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the National Broadcasters Association (NBA) of Liberia hosted its highly anticipated 2024 Liberia Broadcast Media Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements and excellence in the broadcasting industry.
The grand event, held at the Monrovia City Hall, brought together a distinguished gathering of media veterans, emerging talents, industry stakeholders, and dignitaries from various sectors.
The ceremony aimed to celebrate the hard work, creativity, and professionalism demonstrated by broadcasters who continue to shape the narrative and deliver critical information to the Liberian public.
The night was filled with excitement and anticipation as nominees in various categories awaited the announcement of winners, reflecting the vibrant and competitive nature of Liberia’s media landscape.
In his keynote address, Montserrado County District 17 Representative and veteran broadcaster Barnard “DJ Blue” Benson highlighted the significant role broadcasters play in shaping public opinion and promoting democracy. He praised the resilience and dedication of media practitioners, particularly in a rapidly changing digital environment.
Representative Benson, however, pledged his commitment to ensuring that future awards ceremonies are financed through budgetary allotments.
Award Categories and Winners
The awards ceremony featured several categories, including Best Radio Station, Best Television Station, Best News Anchor, and Best Talk Show. Some of the individuals and institutions that received awards include:
- OKFM – Best Radio Station
- Spoon Talk – Best Talk Show
- Sylvester Choloplay (Spoon TV) – Reporter of the Year
- Olive Stevenson (OKFM) – Newscaster of the Year
- Sam Payedo (DJ Weezy, LNTV) – Television Personality of the Year
The event also honored and recognized several heroes in broadcast media as well as notable contributors.
Remarking at the ceremony, Rickey Jaeploe, alias DJ AsaBoy, Chairman of the National Broadcasters Association (NBA) of Liberia, stated that the event aimed to spotlight talents in the media and “give them their flowers.”
