Delegates at the 3rd Emergency Convention of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) have overwhelmingly elected Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah as the party’s Standard Bearer and Political Leader.
The convention and retreat, held at the Baptist Seminary in Paynesville, also marked a resolution of the party’s recent political and legal impasse. According to MOVEE’s revised constitution, Amb. Kemayah will serve a six-year term with no limits on tenure.
Speaking after his induction, Amb. Kemayah hailed his election as a sign of the party’s commitment to peace.
“We cannot trade peace for anything else. In the absence of peace, we would not have been here. To all who worked to ensure our party is peaceful, we say thank you,” he said.
He clarified that while he now leads MOVEE, former President George Weah remains the “Grand Standard Bearer” and Political Leader of both MOVEE and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
“I know when people hear the title Standard Bearer, they think of elections. While I have been elected Standard Bearer of MOVEE, ‘Gbekugbe’ remains the Grand Political Leader and Standard Bearer,” Amb. Kemayah stated.
He added, “We will ensure that he returns to the presidency.”
The convention also elected other party officials, including: Prince Mehn as Chairman, Abraham S. Nyemah as National Vice Chairman for Administration, Johnson Weah as National Vice Chair for Mobilization, Jeremiah Edison Paye as National Secretary General.
Additionally, officials of the Women’s League, a vital pillar of the party, were elected. These include:
Angeline Gborie as National Chairperson, Martina Tarjibo as National Vice,Chairperson for Administration, Makenma Jabateh as National Secretary General. The convention, held from November 28 to December 1, 2024, brought together delegates from all 15 political subdivisions.
It concluded with a resolution reaffirming MOVEE’s support for the Coalition for Democratic Change.
