Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has highlighted significant achievements under President Joseph Boakai’s administration, emphasizing progress in governance, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Speaking at the Ministry’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Minister Piah provided detailed insights into President Boakai’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered on January 27, 2025.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to addressing inherited challenges and driving sustainable development.

“This is my responsibility to explain the SONA to Liberians who may not have had the opportunity to hear the President’s message yesterday,” Minister Piah stated.

“Our government remains steadfast in ensuring that Liberians get the best under President Boakai’s leadership.”

The President’s address highlighted strides in economic growth, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to tackle pressing challenges and foster national progress.

Minister Piah underscored achievements in the education sector, such as the provision of armchairs for public schools and the continuation of the school feeding program to keep students focused and motivated.

“Education is key to nation-building, and our children deserve better,” he said, stressing the administration’s dedication to improving the learning environment.

He also pointed to the administration’s road construction projects, which aim to enhance connectivity and drive economic development.

Minister Piah criticized the lack of infrastructure under the previous administration, stating, “If the roads had been built under the past government, we would now be focusing on other ways to improve the lives of Liberians.

This government is committed to ensuring progress in all sectors.”

The Boakai administration has also made headway in digital transformation, with over 10,000 Liberians trained under the Digital Transformation program across all 15 counties.

Policies enhancing mobile money interoperability and expanding digital infrastructure are expected to attract over $300 million in private sector investments.

Healthcare remains a priority, with achievements including improved maternal and child health outcomes, distribution of essential medicines, and the construction of new health facilities.

Key projects include the establishment of the National Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory in Margibi County and a cardiothoracic center at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.

Minister Piah urged Liberians to rally behind the administration’s vision for a prosperous Liberia.

“We are the foot soldiers in achieving the President’s dream of a better Liberia,” he said.

“As Minister of Information, I am tasked with educating and informing the Liberian people about the realities and efforts of this administration.”

The State of the Nation Address has received praise for its focus on tangible achievements and forward-looking policies.

Observers note that the administration’s emphasis on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and digital transformation signals a strong commitment to improving the lives of all Liberians.

As Liberia charts a path forward, the Boakai administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises offers hope for a brighter future for the nation.
