The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has issued a strong call to citizens of Nimba County to participate actively and peacefully in the upcoming Senatorial By-Election, emphasizing the importance of upholding constitutional rights and strengthening Liberia’s democratic processes.
Addresssing the press yesterday, the LNBA president Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, urged all eligible voters to exercise their franchise in a manner that respects the rule of law and democratic values.
“As Liberia continues to build its democratic credentials, it is imperative that the people of Nimba cast their votes peacefully and responsibly,” the statement read.
The LNBA commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for its ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and extended gratitude to local and international partners for their continued support toward free, fair, and transparent elections in Liberia.
However, the Bar Association expressed concern over persistent challenges that could affect the credibility of the elections, including: Limited civic and voter education in remote parts of Nimba; Logistical and administrative constraints that may affect voter turnout and confidence; Potential security risks and rising political tensions.
The LNBA urged all political parties, independent candidates, and supporters to maintain civility and reject any form of electoral violence or intimidation.
“The people of Nimba must be allowed to freely exercise their democratic rights without fear or coercion,” said Cllr. Varmah.
The Association issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to disrupt the electoral process, stating that any attempts to undermine democracy or incite conflict would face both domestic and international consequences.
As part of its oversight role, the LNBA will continue monitoring electoral developments in Nimba County and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure peace and justice prevail.
“We remain fully committed to promoting democracy, safeguarding the rule of law, and preserving lasting peace in Liberia,” the statement concluded.
The LNBA called on community leaders, civil society organizations, and citizens to uphold democratic principles and contribute to a peaceful and credible election process.
