Liberian journalist Trokon G. Flahnma and Musician Philip Tarr were both honored for their outstanding and invaluable contributions to the Jonahsa Foundation Inc., a non-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged children across Liberia.
The foundation focuses on providing essential services in areas such as mental health, agriculture, and education, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have access to quality education and opportunities for a better future.

Flahnma, who has been a committed volunteer with the foundation since 2022, serves as the Director of Media and Communications. His work has been crucial in raising the profile of the foundation’s initiatives and ensuring that its messages reach a wider audience. His efforts have been instrumental in spreading awareness about the foundation’s mission and engaging with donors and partners who support its programs.

Tarr, also a dedicated volunteer, was recognized for his contributions in using his musical talents to help the foundation. As the newly appointed Music Ambassador of the Jonahsa Foundation, Tarr is tasked with utilizing music as a tool to raise awareness, promote the foundation’s work, and bring people together in support of the cause. His creative contributions have played a key role in engaging the community and creating fun, interactive ways to raise funds and support for the foundation.

Both Flahnma and Tarr were honored together during a special ceremony held on April 5, 2025, along GSA Road in Paynesville, Liberia. The event, which attracted a large crowd of attendees from various organizations and institutions, was filled with joyful singing, dancing, and celebrations. The occasion served as an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable work done by both men and to acknowledge their dedication to the foundation’s mission of empowering Liberia’s youth.

In his remarks, Flahnma expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition and reiterated the importance of giving back to society. “I sincerely thank the Jonahsa Foundation for its remarkable efforts in supporting Liberia’s youth,” he said. “This award is not just for me, but for all of us who are working to make a difference. We all have a role to play in improving the lives of our children, especially in the educational sector, which is so vital for their future.”

Flahnma also took the opportunity to thank the donors and supporters of the Jonahsa Foundation, emphasizing that their generosity makes the foundation’s work possible. “Without the support of our donors, none of this would be possible,” Flahnma added. “Together, we are building a better future for our children.”

Tarr, in his acceptance of the Music Ambassador title, also expressed his appreciation for the recognition and vowed to continue using his musical talents to support the foundation’s mission. “I’m deeply honored to be named the Music Ambassador of the Jonahsa Foundation,” Tarr said. “Music has a unique ability to bring people together and inspire change. I look forward to using my talents to further support the foundation’s work and engage more people in this important cause.”

Jonah Barcon, CEO of the Jonahsa Foundation, spoke highly of both Flahnma and Tarr, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to the organization’s success. “This recognition is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication that Trokon and Philip have shown over the years,” Barcon said. “Their commitment to our mission has made a significant impact, and we are proud to honor them both.”

The Jonahsa Foundation continues to work tirelessly to improve the lives of children across Liberia through its educational, mental health, and agricultural programs. The organization remains committed to expanding its reach and creating more opportunities for the youth of Liberia to succeed. With the continued support of volunteers like Flahnma and Tarr, the foundation is well-positioned to make an even greater difference in the years to come.
