‎Justice Minister Launches ‘One FALAS, One Africa’ Unity Era at Induction of Federation of African Law Students

Capitol Hill – Liberia’s Justice Minister and Attorney General, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, delivered a powerful keynote address at the University of Liberia (UL), celebrating the induction of Madam Izetta Jones Howe, a Liberian, as the first female President of the Federation of African Law Students (FALAS).

Speaking on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Tweh congratulated Howe and Atty. Siaffa Bahn Kemokai II, the new Director of Finance. Ghanaian Associate Justice Sedinam Awo Kwadam led the ceremony, emphasizing Africa’s push for gender empowerment.

‎‎Min. Tweh pledged full government support for FALAS, now led by Liberians, to shape the continent’s legal future.

‎‎Minister Tweh linked the event to its theme: “An Era Begins: One FALAS, One Africa – Unifying the African Voice.”

‎‎He warned of threats like recent coups, judicial corruption, constitutional manipulations, and foreign interference that undermine Africa’s institutions.

Min. Tweh called on FALAS to counter these with anti-corruption initiatives, support for courts like ECOWAS, legal frameworks for AfCFTA trade, unified global stances, Pan-African legal training, and greater trust in the rule of law.

‎‎“FALAS must not just study law, it must change it,” Min. Tweh said.

‎‎He urged students to lead like past heroes who fought colonialism, apartheid, and dictatorships. ‎“One FALAS. One Africa. One unified voice,” he declared.
