Monrovia, Liberia – February 9, 2025: Former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott has warned that Liberia is in deep crisis, with major institutions failing the people.

The family in this country is in crisis. The church is in crisis. The mosque is in crisis. Every aspect of our country is in crisis,” she said. She pointed to problems in the education system, the courts, and integrity institutions, saying leaders are not living up to their responsibilities.

Speaking at the Liberty Party’s Special National Convention in Congo Town on February 8, Cllr. Scott urged political leaders to lead with honesty and put the country first. “We should stop militarizing our youth. We should stop misleading them. We should stop setting examples of being unethical,” she said.

Cllr. Scott has served in key roles, including as Liberia’s Chief Justice from 1997 to 2003 and Minister of Justice in 1996. In 2005, she was elected as Junior Senator for Maryland County under the Unity Party. In December 2024, President Joseph Boakai appointed her as Acting Chairperson of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL).

Her speech comes months after the Supreme Court overturned her conviction in a case involving the death of her niece.

Now back in public life, she is calling for a change in leadership ethics, warning that Liberia cannot move forward without integrity and accountability.
