Monrovia, Liberia – Sunday, June 1, 2025: The Deputy Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives, Commicks Chea, has died. He passed away early Sunday morning at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in Congo Town, where he was rushed for medical attention after collapsing during a plenary session on Thursday, May 29.

Chea, a veteran of legislative service, was widely respected for his deep understanding of parliamentary procedures and his calm demeanor in handling the affairs of the House. Known affectionately by colleagues as “Oldman,” Chea was praised for his dedication and institutional memory.

He served in several key roles throughout his long career, including acting Deputy Chief following the death of Hon. Saifu Geplay. His leadership during that transitional period was well-noted, and he was subsequently elected as Deputy Chief Clerk in January 2024.

During the recent legislative impasse that gripped the Capitol Building, Chea aligned with the Majority Bloc, ensuring that the Secretariat remained functional and procedural activities continued. His decision stood in contrast to that of his boss, Chief Clerk Madam Mildred Sayon, who was absent during the controversy, citing illness.
