On Friday a program intended to begin rasing funds for the construction of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) first ever headquarters turned to be a successful ceremony, when Liberian businessman Cassell Anthony Kuoh promised to construct the institution headquarter.
Kuoh, who is the bank roller of FC Fassell, pledged US$2000 and promised members of SWAL that he will have a discussion with the leadership about the project.
“I can assure you all members of SWAL that you will celebrate your next anniversary in your own building” he told the gathering of sports journalists.
Mr. Kuoh made the statement at the media room of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports stadium when the Sports Writers Association of Liberia celebrated its 38th anniversary.
According to him, SWAL as an institution keeps playing a pivotal role in the development and promotion of sports across the country.
At the same program, sports followers and administrators made donation of money, pledges of cash and cement for the project.
Serving as Key Note Speaker, Liberia Football Association 3rd Vice President, Madam Jodie Reid Seton said SWAL should have a strategic plan that will serve as a blueprint that will steer the institution affairs in the next five year if they are to move to the next level.
She believes such plan will serve as the driving force for all stakeholders of SWAL to work together towards actualizing their vision and mission.
“If SWAL must build a wholesome functioning organization and move to the next level, I strongly urged you to devise plan to build your own headquarters” she added.
For his part, SWAL president, Varmah Kamara called on his members to keep upholding the standards of accuracy, fairness and impartiality that have defined the sports writing body for the last 38 years.
He acknowledged that the moving forward of SWAL depend on sports journalists adapting without losing sight our SWAL mission which have to do with serving the public with truthful, insightful, and engaging sports content.
“As president of this great association, I want to take this moment to express my deepest gratitude to all our past and present members for the dedication and hard work” he said.
Speaking further, Mr. Kamara called on SWAL members to reaffirm their commitment to promoting sports, advocating for better facilities and opportunities for athletes and telling stories that inspire and unite the country.
