The Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Fire Service have confirmed that the fire at the Capitol Building was a deliberate act of arson.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman revealed that investigators have gathered overwhelming evidence pointing to arson. “We have identified individuals of interest and have contacted them. If they fail to come forward, we will proceed with their arrest,” Coleman stated.

The tragic fire occurred on the morning of December 18, 2024, leaving Liberians in shock as flames consumed parts of the historic Capitol Building, including the Joint Chambers and Dome. The building, a national landmark since its construction in 1957, suffered extensive damage.

Authorities assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring those responsible to justice.
