Gbarnga, Liberia — Amid growing concerns over alleged tribal favoritism within the Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong County Detachment, County Commander Fasu V. Sheriff has addressed the issue, reaffirming his commitment to impartiality and professional conduct.

Speaking on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the LNP’s county headquarters in Gbarnga, Commander Sheriff emphasized that his role is rooted in national service, not tribal loyalty.“I joined the Liberia National Police out of a desire to serve the Liberian people—not to pursue tribal interests,” Sheriff

While identifying as Mandingo, Sheriff made it clear that his duties as county commander transcend ethnic divisions. “My work goes beyond tribal lines,” he said, highlighting the importance of unity within law enforcement.Sheriff outlined the LNP’s primary responsibilities, including maintaining public order and safety, protecting life and property, and investigating and preventing crime.

He also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability through a community-based policing approach.“With my background in community policing strategies, I will never support any segregational practices that threaten the integrity of the Liberian police sector,” he said.

To further dispel concerns, Sheriff cited the diversity within the Bong Detachment’s leadership. “The operations commander is from Bong County, the deputy commander of the Crime Services Division is from Nimba County, and I—the county commander—am also from Bong County,” he noted.

Recognizing Liberia’s history of tribal conflict, Sheriff acknowledged its lingering effects but vowed not to allow ethnic divisions to influence his leadership. “As a law enforcement officer, I am fully aware of the consequences of tribal war. I will never marginalize any group based on tribal identity,” he said.

He called for unity and collaboration among officers of all backgrounds to ensure effective policing across Bong County and beyond. Sheriff assured residents of his continued dedication to professionalism in law enforcement. “I am committed to delivering policing strategies that will keep our communities safe,” he concluded, emphasizing efforts to build public trust and confidence.

His remarks come at a sensitive time, as allegations of tribalism threaten to undermine public confidence in the police. Commander Sheriff’s firm stance on unity and professionalism underscores the need for inclusivity in maintaining peace and security in post-conflict Liberia.
