Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has called on his fellow lawmakers to prioritize the country’s needs over personal interests.

Speaking on ELBC on Monday, Senator Dillon highlighted the determination shown by the 43 Representatives in the House who are pushing to remove the Speaker.

“If the same kind of resolution, boldness, determination, and firmness to stay together as our colleagues from the lower House — 43 of them — are demonstrating, could be applied to national issues, that’s what I would like to see,” Dillon stated.

He pointed out that if lawmakers applied the same level of commitment to their oversight duties, it would significantly improve the country.

“I have never seen us so resolute in the cause of the Liberian people, and I am hopeful that we begin to do so,” Dillon added.

Dillon emphasized that lawmakers should not only show resolve when it comes to personal issues but must also be dedicated to serving the public interest.

Commenting on the ongoing impasse at the House of Representatives, the Montserrado lawmaker stated that while he does not take sides in the matter, he would like to see due process followed.

He mentioned that just because Cllr. Fonati Koffa has been accused by his colleagues, it does not automatically mean he is guilty or that he should resign.

Senator Dillon called on his colleagues from the Lower House, especially the “majority bloc,” to allow Speaker Fonati Koffa the opportunity to confront his accusers.
