Monrovia, Liberia – March 13, 2025: During the ongoing second cabinet meeting of 2025 at the Executive Mansion, President Joseph Boakai made a direct appeal to cabinet officials regarding the growing unemployment crisis among Liberia’s youth.
The President stressed that failing to provide job opportunities for young people could have severe social consequences, warning that it would lead to unrest.
“If the youths are not given jobs, we are in trouble because they will be at our homes or offices causing trouble,” he said, highlighting the frustrations of young people who struggle to find meaningful work.
He emphasized that the unemployment issue posed a serious threat to Liberia’s social stability and overall development. “Many young people have gone to school, graduated, and earned degrees, yet they are still searching for jobs,” President Boakai pointed out, noting a troubling disconnect between the education system and the job market.
In addition to formal education, President Boakai acknowledged that many young people possess valuable skills but remain unemployed. “Some of them have skills and no jobs, so we have to create jobs,” he stated.
The President revealed that his administration is accelerating efforts to create job opportunities for Liberia’s youth and urged government officials to prioritize finding solutions to ensure economic stability and provide young people with the opportunities they deserve.
