Several days after agreeing in a phone conversation with ECOWAS Chairman, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, to meet with ECOWAS mediators over the ongoing political tensions at Capitol Hill, Liberia’s President Joseph N. Boakai has reportedly reversed his decision.
A Spoon TV Report quoting Executive Mansion Sources, says the Liberian leader has decided not to engage with the ECOWAS Representatives as initially planned.
The Report added that Liberia’s Foreign Minister has formally notified ECOWAS that all previously arranged meetings with President Boakai have been canceled, citing conflicts with the President’s national and regional schedules.
The ECOWAS delegation is expected to arrive in Liberia on November 11, 2024, with plans to mediate between embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and the 43 dissenting Representatives at Capitol Hill.
Speaker Koffa is currently facing a potential ousting over allegations of corruption and poor leadership, which have intensified the political crisis.
