The Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong County Detachment has rolled out Phase II of its late-night motorcycle restriction in Gbarnga, extending the curfew from 12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
According to authorities, the new phase comes after the success of the first, which resulted in a sharp drop in armed robbery and burglary cases.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Fasu V. Sheriff said Phase II is designed to tighten nighttime movement and ensure continued public safety. Unlike Phase I, which focused on awareness and warnings, the new phase emphasizes strict enforcement—offenders will now face fines or court action.
ACP Sheriff explained that the restriction will be enforced across Bong County, not just in central Gbarnga. He praised local residents and partners for their logistical support, including fuel for patrol vehicles, and urged sustained collaboration to keep communities safe.
Chief Superintendent Foster Varney, Deputy Commander for Administration, announced that Phase II will last one month, after which the results will be reviewed before launching Phase III.
Meanwhile, other senior officers, including Superintendent James Carter and Chief of Operations Chris Gono, reported that the restriction has already led to a “drastic reduction in crime”, with residents expressing satisfaction over improved security.
The late-night motorcycle restriction will continue through January 2026, as part of nationwide efforts to reduce nighttime crimes and enhance safety across Liberia.
