Deputy House Speaker Thomas Fallah has appealed to members of the House Majority Bloc for additional time to consult with his lawyers on whether he should appear and preside over the body.
On two occasions, the Majority Bloc has summoned Deputy Speaker Fallah to appear before them, warning he risks losing his position if he does not comply.
In a letter dated October 28, 2024, Deputy Speaker Fallah acknowledged receiving the two communications, dated October 22 and October 24, 2024.
Addressing the letter to the Majority Bloc’s Acting Chief Clerk, Mr. James Toubie, Fallah underscored the significance of the issue concerning the Speaker’s removal, noting that it involves both the House’s rules and the Liberian Constitution.
He respectfully requested additional time to consult his legal team to ensure that his actions are legally sound.
“I write to crave the indulgence of my colleagues…to excuse my absence today in order to allow me some time to consult with my legal team regarding the matter at hand,” he stated in the letter.
The Deputy Speaker expressed his appreciation to his colleagues for the invitation and pledged to make a well-informed decision soon.
