July 2, 2025 | Monrovia – The National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) has awarded full scholarships to 20 exceptional university students as part of its 2025/2026 educational support program.
The scholarship ceremony, held at NOCAL’s headquarters in Monrovia, brought together officials from the Ministry of Education, LIPA, civil society, and families to celebrate the achievement.
NOCAL President and CEO, Hon. Fabian M. Lai, said the scholarships are part of a broader plan to prepare young Liberians for leadership in the energy and natural resources sector. He noted that the initiative supports President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, especially its focus on education and local content development.
The application process was highly competitive, with 191 students from all 15 counties applying. After a three-stage selection process, 20 students were chosen—33% of them women, many studying in STEM fields, showing NOCAL’s commitment to gender balance and inclusive growth.
Hon. Lai encouraged the recipients to view their scholarships as both an honor and a duty to contribute to Liberia’s progress. He also announced future plans for alumni mentorship and internship programs to help students gain career experience.
The event ended with a call for more public and private investment in education, as NOCAL emphasized that empowering young people is key to Liberia’s long-term development.
