Greenville, Sinoe County – A young man identified as Ellis Nimely Nagbe, commonly known as “KAKA,” has reportedly died after being arrested by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Greenville, Sinoe County.

According to information gathered, Nagbe was arrested in the Gap Community on allegations of possessing illegal drugs. Authorities later reported that he was taken to the F.J. Grante Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear and have raised concerns among family members and residents of the community. An eyewitness alleged that while attempting to escape from officers, Nagbe was chased toward a nearby river where he was reportedly severely tortured by officers of the LDEA.

The eyewitness claims the alleged torture may have contributed to his death before he was taken to the hospital. In contrast, medical personnel at the hospital reportedly issued a statement indicating that the cause of death was an overdose of “Kush,” a narcotic substance that has been linked to several drug-related incidents in Liberia.

Medical sources also stated that authorities claimed Nagbe was found with approximately 135 pieces of Kush at the time of his arrest. The conflicting accounts between the eyewitness testimony and the medical report have created uncertainty, with the deceased’s family questioning the accuracy of the official explanation.

Family members say the information provided by both the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and the doctors at F.J. Grante Memorial Hospital does not clearly explain what led to the young man’s death. Adding to the controversy, the Sinoe County Attorney has reportedly declined to provide a legal interpretation of the case at this stage. Instead, she has advised the family to take the matter to court if they wish to challenge the circumstances surrounding the death.

She also indicated that, in line with her duties, she would serve as legal counsel representing state security institutions. The situation has sparked discussions in the community, with residents calling for greater transparency and an independent investigation to determine the actual cause of death.

Meanwhile, the family of Ellis Nimely Nagbe is demanding a thorough investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability if wrongdoing is discovered.

Authorities have not yet released an official comprehensive statement addressing the allegations made by eyewitnesses.
