National Police has announced the charging of a 67-year-old classroom teacher, Mrs. Klady A. Paul, following what police say was an assault on a traffic officer in Sinkor on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Speaking to reporters at the LNP Headquarters, police spokesperson Mrs. Ceceila Clarke said the incident happened in the morning hours at the intersection of Torwest Street. According to her, the traffic officer was carrying out his duty, regulating and directing traffic, when Mrs. Paul came toward him in what she described as a hostile and disruptive way.

“She began insulting the officer, using strong and disrespectful language, not only to him but to other officers who were present there,” Clarke explained. “Things quickly escalated from talking to a physical attack,” she added.

Police say the confrontation was recorded on video, which was shown to journalists at the press briefing. In the footage, Mrs. Paul is allegedly seen hitting the officer while he was on duty, which led to injury on his face. Police also say she damaged a government-issued police communication radio during the incident.

Clarke described the actions as “reckless, disrespectful and in clear violation of the law.”

Following an investigation, police charged Mrs. Paul with three offenses Simple Assault, Criminal Mischief, and Disorderly Conduct citing violations under Chapter 14, Section 14.21(a), Chapter 15, Section 15.5, and Chapter 17, Section 17.3 of the Penal Law of Liberia.

“These charges show how serious the actions were and the disruption it caused to public order and police work,” Clarke told the media. She noted that the accused will be sent to court immediately after the press briefing to face prosecution.

The LNP spokesperson stressed that the police will continue to uphold accountability for their officers but will also protect them when they are performing their duties.

Clarke ended by calling on Liberians to respect officers while they are serving the public.
