The House of Representatives has inducted Hon. Kortor Sehwongbay Kwagrue as the new Representative of Nimba County Electoral District #5, following his certification by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
The induction ceremony took place during the House’s regular session on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Capitol Building. House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, in accordance with Rule 11 of the House’s standing rules, administered the oath of office, charging Rep. Kwagrue to uphold the Constitution and serve his constituents with integrity and dedication.
Rep. Kwagrue’s induction follows the election of former District #5 Representative Samuel G. Kogar to the Liberian Senate in a by-election held on April 22, 2025, after the passing of long-serving Senator Prince Yormie Johnson. Kogar’s elevation to the Senate created a vacancy that led to Kwagrue’s successful bid for the seat.
Representing the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), Rep. Kwagrue secured 4,795 votes (31.39%), defeating Borris B. Barleah (Independent) and Augustus Karnay Menkoah of the VOLT Party. His victory reaffirms the MDR’s growing political influence in Nimba County.
In his inaugural address, Rep. Kwagrue expressed profound gratitude to the people of District #5 for their trust and confidence, pledging to serve with commitment and transparency.
“I am deeply honored by the faith my people have placed in me. I will work tirelessly to ensure that our district benefits from improved infrastructure, better education, and accessible healthcare. Together, we will continue the journey toward sustainable development,” Kwagrue said.
The new lawmaker also underscored the importance of unity and collaboration among Nimba’s legislative caucus members to advance the county’s collective development goals.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah, members of the House of Representatives, staff of the Legislature, and several guests.
Following the induction, well-wishers and supporters took to social media to celebrate Kwagrue’s new role. One post read: “Congratulations on your swearing-in today, Rep. Kortor Kwagrue, as member of the 55th National Legislature. You are now charged to demonstrate the leadership your people elected you for. Serve well, my senior brother.”
Another supporter wrote: “Hon. Kortor Kwagrue’s official swearing-in marks a new chapter of leadership, service, and commitment to the people of District #5. We look forward to seeing his vision for development take shape.”
Rep. Kwagrue now joins the 55th Legislature as Nimba County’s newest representative, with the eyes of his constituents and county leaders fixed on his promises of progress and unity.
